Prequel Adv 2 - Edglings

Characters
Auri
The German
Zerg

The team finds some interesting data from the last raid on a NET23 research base which failed to be the base they wanted. This time they seem to have found what The German and Zerg have been after. Their new target is in the Belt on a un-surveyed asteroid.

The German is able to persuade Zerg to keep Auri, even if she failed them last adventure, her insight into the Edge would be useful on their next mission. So they agree to put her on a work-release agreement for INTERPOL as they fail to also find any volunteers to follow them on the next raid.

Auri comes big by procuring a stealth ship from Hermitage and they coast to the asteroid just missing the security net. Once on the surface, they make a spacewalk around and even hacking a nearby relay to divert some attention elsewhere. Once inside the base, they make a shocking discovery that the research is on young children and their extraordinary Edge abilities.

The team stops a procedure in action and has an intense firefight with some of the guards and robots, but in the end they free the children and book it out of the facility. Once outside though they are ambushed by the oldest of the children, who is controlling a giant warbot. Without any warning he launches a salvo of missiles at the group, three of the seven children perish in the explosion. The German, fearlessly charges the Warbot and throws the kid down to the surface while Auri and Zerg takes him out.

Life in the 23rd Century - Implants

Technology shapes and dominates every moment of a person's life in 2240 Earth.

Every human upon birth is implanted with a cerebral implant to properly track physical and mental growth of the child. After early childhood, the implant is constantly upgraded throughout their pre-adulthood life. Everything is tracked and controlled, from education learning to emotional well-being. Most children gain limited access to the Net at age 10.

The Net is similar to the 21st century Internet, but the data is streams of thought processed in the form of visuals determined by author and reader. Most compare the Net to a conglomeration of every thought and idea in the world past & present. Access to the Net is through a person's implant and processed straight into the brain. Most people (transhumans excepted) have trouble focusing on their present self & environment while accessing the Net.

At anytime, anyone can access any data from personal resumes to company profit reports. Private data is still stored on the Net, but secured with various security measures that still can be subverted with the right skills & information.

If you meet a person, your Implant searches nearly 1000 data-sites for information on the person you are just about to shake hands with. Everything, including personal blogs, current resume, college dissertation, and arrest records, is processed and filtered.

Transhumans are a sub-species created by the interdependence and personal development with their Implant at an early age. These children do not learn a single language but all languages naturally, with their Implant transferring pure communication as understanding. One interesting observation is the creation of a Trans-speak, a language of gibberish with no rules whatsoever but understood thanks to our Implants. Transhumans also struggle to differentiate reality from Net to their actual physical surroundings.

Many customize their Implants for speed, storage, and security. These lead to external hardware for peripheral input/output.

It is estimated less then a million humans lack Implants, due to extreme religious intolerance or isolation and lack of simple medical care. most Factions make it illegal to not have an Implant except with a permit.

Prequel Adv 1 - The Score

Characters
Auri (Dustin) - Transhuman Shaper Beyonder
Undercover Hermitage operative, working at isolated NET23 base.

The German (Mike) - Avatar Soldier Leader
Free officer directing Hermitage terrorist cell against Martian Jump Gate.

Zergnod Dolmen (Lucas) - Human Precept Agent
Interpol field agent, given tip of highly wanted sci-criminal at NET23 base.

Auri finds rumors of a highly secretive base in the Belt so after reporting it is told to stop her operation and an extraction team will arrive to destroy the place.

Dolmen is a highly respected Interpol agent but is feeling heat to retire to a desk job so he is desperate for the next big score to keep his job.  He gets info of  wanted sci-criminal working at an isolated Mrs base so he is blessed to recruit enough young agents to back him up. One recruit, "The German" is in disguise to setup the base for destruction and extract his operative.

Auri hacks the system to get the agents on the private mag-rail and is able to get one of two front guards to leave his station. Dolmen finally flashes his badge and warrant with the door open. He sits 2 agents to watch the lobby and prevent anyone from escaping.

Auri leads the team through the compound and Dolmen is able to talk down some guards on their way. They find some prototype engine but they find themselves surrounded by angry guards. The German takes the opportunity to start a firefight while Auri works on taking out the key components from the engine to hand over to the Hermitage.

The German only ends up using his gun once and relies mostly on melee attacks. Dolmen does well until the shield drones bunch up preventing him from doing much damage with his pistol. The German is able to get Inspire off twice and Auri gets Control off (I got the defense to 9 but he still was able to beat it) on the Security captain forcing the guards to be hesitant on continuing the fight though The German and Dolmen end up killing 2 more of them.

Finally Dolmen realizes that he was setup and there is no sci-criminal here so I stead of fighting his way out or end up empty handed he makes a truce to give up the engine to take Auri under arrest. She puts the engine back but spends 4 mental to haywire it. As they leave on the mag-rail there is slight vibration and they discover the next day the base becomes a large crater.

Auri offers Zerg the data she stole and the location of a true Interpol score.

Mega-Corporations

With the global markets crashed and rebuilding after the Modern Dark Age, many corporations merged into massive conglomerates to pool resources and work with newly rebounded governments. These governments turn a blind eye to the monopolization of these resources & technologies in exchange for backing against other rival governments. The Corporations realize people want government and not a company running their lives so they stick to using the political system to their advantages. Though the exception was China where the traditional communist system was able to deflect any kind of MegaCorp takeover and later the nationalizing of the MegaCorps in Russia & Korea.

Sadicorp: Company closely aligned with the Alliance & the Confederation. Deals in consumer goods, cybernetics, military hardware, and fuel. Major influence on mercenaries & militaries.

Based in Neuvo Francisco, Zion, and Lunar Base. Leader in colonial technology, teraforming, and human resources. Does deal in espionage & selling of stolen secrets.

NeoGenesis: Based in London & Aldrin City. Built on genetic & molecular manipulation technologies. Known for questionable & dangerous experiments.

NET23

New Edge Technologies: (aka NET23) Based on Mars. Developer of Edge advancements, augments, and propulsion. Struggles to keep in line with Martian Neutrality.

Earth Governments

With the worldwide currency crash of the late 21st century, Earth falls into a new Dark Age of war & strife. What emerges is the unification of global powers by 2129 and the dissolvement of the United Nations in 2181.

Atlantic Alliance: United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, European Union.

People's Republic: China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia.

Southern Coalition: Australia, India, Africa, Middle East.

The Lunar Cities are divided up among the Big Three, but is really ruled by the Syndicate from the shadows, as it is an aging territory that is a drain on resources.

Mars declares itself neutral & forms the United Colonies of Mars. The Atlantic Alliance refuses to acknowledge the secession and begins the Shadow War but thanks to Mars' local Corporation, Net23, the Alliance struggles to get the upper hand  against the Martian Edge technologies.

The Free

The Free
Former Grey, now digital intelligence in advanced robotics.
Set number, consciousness stored in Mothership.
Never has duplicates of the same individual until death.

The Grey have always been resourceful and advanced with their technology, so when they faced a losing battle against the Dyranni mind control they took the ultimate step to protect themselves and a future for all sentient life. This sacrifice forced the Grey to upload their consciousnesses into an elaborate server of digital intelligence. Calling themselves the Free, the sought to find a way to stop the Dyranni threat among the uncharted systems to keep hidden from the Confederation.

The Free have a set number, even though they are in robot bodies. When one loses connection with their Mothership, its current saved memories are installed into a new body. It is believed that it could be dangerous to have multiples of the same consciousness acting on their own. Their bodies are easily modified to hide within any populace thanks to their Mirage Drives.

Each cell is based on a Mothership where their memories are stored. These Motherships are massive built to process the digital intelligence but also as factories to build whatever the Free need for their missions. To keep them hidden the Mothership has an advanced cloaking device to avoid detection. The Mothership also has prototype FTL drives, allowing the Free to travel from system to system.
